Michigan Chapter Emmy Awardsby Christy Derry The 31st annual Michigan Chapter Emmy Awards presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences took place on Saturday, June 6. When nominees and their family and friends arrived, there was a red carpet rolled out and a photographer ready to capture the moment. From 4-6pm nominees and ticket holders mingled and cruised the wonderful buffet line. The event was held in the Motor City Casino’s new Sound Board Theater, which everyone seemed to agree was a step up from the venue of previous years.
By 6pm the awards show began. The presenters and even some of the winners showed their spirit for the city by wearing red and rooting for the Red Wings who were playing later that night. Of course the big story was Sonny Eliot who received the Governor’s Award. Jim Brandstatter and his wife, Robbie Timmons presented this award to their good friend. And of course, in receiving the award, Sonny was as charming as ever! Even though winning an Emmy is a great honor, even receiving a nomination is a big deal. “Detroit is also among the top ten markets in America and has some of the best programming in the nation. Being nominated for an Emmy is an honor in itself,” said Jeremy Salo, whose show Your Brush With Nature was nominated for On‐Camera Talent ‐ Performer/Narrator.

The night wrapped up around 8:30pm with time for everyone to watch the end of the Red Wing’s game. It was an evening of excitement and glamour, and certainly one to remember.
