DPTV goes mobile

By:Chris Aliapoulios

Detroit Public TV is a non-profit organization focused on providing educational and inspirational content to meet the increasing needs of the communities it serves.  Programming spans five key areas: Children and Education; Jobs and Leadership; Arts and Culture; Energy and Environment; and Health and Wellness.dptv-2-42510

A current example of DPTV’s community needs based broadcasting is pilot StartupNation - Open for Business, with the Sloan Brothers, which premiered March 2010. Featuring Jeff and Rich Sloan: entrepreneurs, siblings, and two of the country’s top small business experts, the program offers advice and education for the startup of small businesses.

To enhance their community presence, DPTV recently took delivery of Michigan’s first mobile HD TV studio.  The mobile studio is built on a Ford F650 frame.  It is 35 feet long, weighs 26,000 pounds and carries its own power generator. The truck is equipped with 6 GVG LDK-3000 HD cameras, Angenieux lenses, Yamaha audio mixing, Chyron graphics, Utah Scientific routing and distribution, and GVG Kayak with Spectra and Kurl Options switching and recording.

Jeff Forster, DPTV’s VP of Production and Station Enterprises told MMM “we can tape a multi-camera HD program anywhere.  You end up with a live finished event as you go”
The truck can be driven to parades, fireworks, panel discussions, and literally anywhere you can practically imagine. It is also available for rentals!
